Foundation, awarded an outstanding candidate our first annual academic scholarship for post-secondary academic study. The recipient, Ms. Shanice Morgan, was awarded $1000.00 to support her study at Roanoke College for the 2017-2018 academic school year. The C.R.O.P. Foundation is extremely proud of Ms. Morgan and we are excited to support her in her academic endeavors.
Ms. Shanice Morgan has distinguished herself through her academic preparation and service to her school/community. Ms. Morgan is a 2017 graduate of Oscar Smith High School, graduating in the top third of her class, with a 3.57 GPA. Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway: Sigma Kappa Kappa (SKK) Chapter, Third District, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., in partnership with the Community Resource Opportunity Project (C.R.O.P) Foundation Inc., (https://www/chesapeakecropfoundation.org) supported 35 families in the Berkley community in the City of Chesapeake, by providing each identified family with one 14lb turkey. Together, Sigma Kappa Kappa and the C.R.O.P Foundation raised and contributed over $600.00 in cash to purchase and provide frozen turkeys in reusable holiday bags to identified families to ensure they would be able to truly enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday. To accomplish this good and honorable work, SKK worked in concert with Ms. Nischelle Buffalow, a local community activist and local WTKR 2012 People Taking Action Humanitarian Award winner and the Southside Boys and Girls Club, Berkley Unit, to identify families with children to participate in this community event. This was truly a heartwarming event, hearing testimonials from turkey recipients such as:
“I am on a fixed disability income and it’s hard at times. We don’t have a lot to work with. This will give us an opportunity to have a family dinner together. Leftovers can be stretched too. Bless you all for doing this”
“It will make it possible for our family to really give thanks and this reminds us how lucky we are. Thank you so much!”
“My family and I will be able to have our first thanksgiving together as a family in one place in years. Oh my, this is such a blessing.”
A special thanks to the Pi Gamma Chapter, Third District, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the Clutch and Burn Motorcycle Club of Virginia Beach, VA for their handsome donations and strong efforts in making this event a success. Thank you to our community partners, Ms. Buffalow and the staff of the Southside Boys and Girls Club in Berkley. SKK and the C.R.O.P Foundation look forward to our continued work with our community partners, as we strive together, to nourish the minds, bodies, and souls of our children today; creating stronger communities for tomorrow.
